Expanded Learning Program

Kindness Certified School Seal

Caruthers High School ELP participates each year with over 17 million students in 33,000+ schools spanning 115 countries as part of the Great Kindness Challenge! Kindness matters in our school, in our community, and in our world. We are honored to be recognized as a Kindness Certified School.

Mission

Caruthers High School is committed to the success of their students through partnerships that will create successful learning and enrichment opportunities for all. These opportunities will support student academic, social, and emotional learning by building positive relationships through student-to-student and student-to-teacher connections.

Purpose

The purpose of the award winning Caruthers High School Expanded Learning Program is to provide youth with a safe and healthy place to go after school, a place where homework help and a nutritious snack are available, and a place to enjoy a wide variety of interactive classes.

  • Academic learning and physical movement disguised as fun, hands-on activities.
  • Interesting classes—from the arts to digital media, and from mad science to journaling—not offered during the regular school day.
  • Building interests that lead to the exploration of career options and college pathways.

The Expanded Learning Program is free for all students of Caruthers High School. We are open Monday through Friday before and after school. Our enrichment courses are aligned with the California Content Standards for grades 9-12. In compliance with Assembly Bill 1567, priority enrollment is extended to homeless and foster youth.
